Tips for Memorization
The Awana "Family Time with God" calendar is easy to use. Here are a couple of suggestions that can help make this plan simple and fun for your entire family to learn verses together, week after week.
Breakfast time and bedtimes offer great opportunities to reinforce the memory verse for the week. Say it together with the reference (the book, chapter, and verse) and then ask your child to repeat it with you. Make this a simple routine that continues year after year.
Sunday can be a review day for the entire family. Say the entire memory verse from the last week together in the car as you head to church or to an event.
Repetition is necessary for any of us to retain the words. Sometimes, however, you may find that you need to motivate children further. A sticker chart is a great way to do this. Make a chart, and allow your child to put up a sticker each time he or she memorizes a verse.
